Call for Volunteers: BCAC Art Week at YMCA Camp Happy

The Circus is coming, the circus is coming to Camp Happy!

Again this summer BCAC will collaborate with the YMCA to expose county children to the arts. A full week of circus themed activities will be brought by Sheila Kerrigan, The Mime Who Talks, in acrobatics, juggling, tumbling - just all round clowning around! Artists will be teaching paper mache' clown noses, funny hats, face painting, and lots of other circus inspired projects. Definitely a fun week is planned for all the campers. If you have a child, grandchild, or other visitor during June 24-28, contact the YMCA for registering them for all the fun. Also, any BCAC member that can be a helper for a day, morning or afternoon, please call the gallery 794-9402 to volunteer by leaving your name and phone number and one of the circus clowns (whoops, team member) will return your call. Follow the circus on our Facebook page!

Regards,

Karen Sours & your BCAC Board of DIrectors

Michael Haggerty Photography Exhibition

You are cordially invited to join us at the gallery on Thursday, March 7th from 5:30-7:30 PM for a reception to celebrate the opening of our exhibit featuring the photos of Michael Haggerty. Michael won Best in Show at our 2019 juried photography competition with his photo entitled "Blast Off" and we're really excited to see what he's been up to since then!

A native of Rocky Mount since 1950 and the third oldest of four siblings, Michael Haggerty’s love of nature was encouraged by his sawmill-owner father who was an early forest naturalist. By passing on this appreciation and fascination of the woods to his son, Michael embraced all of Mother Nature’s landscape through photography. Now after 40 years of spending hours in nature, Michael believes his greatest accomplishment in photography has not been the awards or recognition, but his experiences with all of the wildlife, including “Buddy the Bear.”
