You are cordially invited to a gallery reception on Thursday, October 5th 2023, from 5:30-7:30PM to celebrate the opening of a very special exhibit called “The Art of Bertie: Yesterday and Today.” BCAC has teamed up with the Historic Hope Foundation to deliver a show filled with art reflecting images of people, places, and pastimes in Bertie County. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served. We hope to see you there!

In addition to the spectacular local artwork that has already been delivered, we have another special announcement! Dot Andrews has generously donated a painting by the late beloved local master painter, Dr. Fred Saunders, which will be sold via silent auction. The silent auction begins at 5:30PM on opening night and ends 12:00PM on Thursday, November 9th, 2023. More information will be available at the reception.

If you can’t make it to the reception on 10/05/23 but are interested in seeing the show in person or purchasing a piece of artwork from the collection, don’t worry. This show will hang in our gallery through November 9th. There will also be a corresponding virtual show posted to our website www.bertiearts.com.

Calling all photographers: BCAC will be hosting a photography exhibition this summer, and we need your submissions! The Bertie Everyday Photography Showcase opens with a gallery reception from 5:30-7:30PM on August 10, 2023. All photos on display will depict contemporary people, places, and pastimes in Bertie County. Delivery of artwork to the gallery July 26-28. This is an exciting opportunity for local photographers to share their work with the larger community because the exhibit will hang during the first Pecan Pickling Short Film Festival here in September. We anticipate the festival to bring higher-than-usual traffic through the gallery that month, and there is even a possibility that BCAC may be asked to co-host Pecan Pickling events during the festival. There is no telling WHO might see your photos! More details TBD.

Class cost is $12 per class for member students and $15 for nonmember students. You can also take advantage of our bundle discount - $75 for all 8 classes! (Please note that non-refundable payment in full is required beforehand to secure the bundle discount.)

Students must be aged 8-12 years old. Our instructor will be Elizabeth Joyner. Students should come to class wearing clothing they can get messy. A snack will be served during class. Yee haw! It’s time for our annual membership dinner! All BCAC members are cordially invited to gather with us at the Roanoke-Chowan Heritage Center on June 15, 2023.

Cocktails begin at 5:30PM, and dinner will be served from 6-8PM. This year’s theme is Country-Western. We’ve booked Ernie’s Country for the Country to provide live music, and there will be dancing room for anyone who wants to kick up their heels! Country-Western attire is welcome but not required. We’ll have a fun photo booth area set up for everyone to enjoy. There will also be an exciting raffle with 100% of the proceeds going to kickstart funding for BCAC’s next exciting capital improvement project for the community: “Artisan’s Alley.”

BCAC events are known for their home-cooked hospitality & this will be no exception. Big thank you to board member Laura Goguet (aka “Laura Gourmet”) for chairing this event! She’s planned a scrumptious country chuckwagon menu featuring delicious items like ribs, chicken, traditional cookout side dishes, and a large selection of homemade desserts.

You are cordially invited to a gallery reception on Thursday April 27th to celebrate the opening of our 2023 juried Members Art Show. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

BCAC members may submit two works of art for $10. All submissions must be original pieces that have not been previously exhibited at the BCAC gallery. All mediums permitted. Size of entries must not exceed 24x36 inches. Prize money ($100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, $25 for 3rd place) and Honorable Mention ribbons will be awarded at the discretion of our Juror, Mr. Tom Brennan. There will also be a People’s Choice award this year, determined by votes of those in attendance and announced later that week!

Member artists wishing to participate should prepare to deliver artwork between 10AM-2PM on April 20 & 21. The show will go up on April 24th, is being judged on the 25th, and will hang in the gallery through July 20th. We have a terrific children's artwork exhibit hanging in the piano room until June 1st: the Aulander Elementary Spring Extravaganza Art Show! Come join us at the gallery from 5-6pm on Wednesday, April 19th as we celebrate the opening of this show along with the community. Snacks provided. Big thanks to teacher Tanisha Newkirk for helping coordinate this wonderful show with BCAC.

Happy New Year! We’re starting off 2023 with something a little different that we hope will be lots of fun: a Vintage Artwork Retrospective. This exhibition is a collaborative effort between BCAC and Rebecca Jinnette of Inner Banks Vintage and will feature work dating between 20-300 years old, made by many different artists using a variety of mediums. You are cordially invited to join us at the gallery from 5:30-7:30PM on Thursday, January 12, to celebrate opening night with fellowship, drinks, tea, and snacks.

This is going to be a laid back, come as you are, relaxing type of event. We hope to recreate the joyful experience of rummaging at a terrific estate sale. Most items will be available for purchase and careful handling is permitted. There will even be couple of more immersive spots where visitors are encouraged to root through an old jewelry box or box of old linens. And, in true estate sale fashion, any remaining items from the Vintage Artwork Retrospective will be priced 50% off during the final three days of the exhibition! (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday February 8th-10th)

We are pleased to announce that phase one of the Windsor Mural Project has concluded right on schedule, with the Hand in Hand Creative team having completed their largest installation at 122 E. Granville Street. The new mural has already served to enhance our charming downtown area with renewed vibrancy, color, and collective excitement throughout its entire delivery.

You are cordially invited to gather together with us for a finale party at the mural starting at 1pm on Saturday, December 17th, 2022 to celebrate the completion of this great work and its positive impact on our community. Hot cocoa, cookies, and boiled peanuts will be served. 

We hope to see you Saturday 12/17/22, but if you can’t make it to the finale event, don’t worry. Documentation of the entire process from start to finish will be available on our website at www.bertiearts.com/mural-project.

The time has come for our first Doodle Day! You are cordially invited to come by the job site and have a hand in the mural. This first step is all about the process! These doodles are the first layer of painting and will set the stage for the mural to take shape. Your doodles will be a guide to help Andrew & Sarah bring their larger-than-life image up on the wall. Bring yourself and wear paint-friendly clothes just in case. All ages welcome. No painting experience required!

The time has finally come for work to begin on the Windsor Mural project, and we’re so excited! You are cordially invited to join us for a kickoff event at the mural site to welcome the duo behind Hand in Hand Creative, Andrew & Sarah McWilson. This event is family friendly - all ages are welcome. You are cordially invited to a gallery reception from 5:30-7:30PM on Thursday, May 5th to celebrate the opening of "Sound Tree." This special photography exhibition will feature the work of our good friend, artist Tom Brennan. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served. 

Brennan's "Sound Tree" series is interesting. Tom has spent over a decade documenting the same bald cypress tree on the Albemarle. This long-term laser focus sets the Sound Tree study apart from his previous showings with BCAC. You will, however, instantly recognize the artist's voice as Tom once again reliably captures the essence and charm of Inner Banks life.

If you can’t make it to the reception on 05/05/22 but are interested in seeing the show in person or purchasing a piece of artwork from the collection, don’t worry! Sound Tree will be posted to our website's Virtual Exhibits page within a few days of the opening reception and will remain available for in-person viewing through June 17th.
